Lions Club of Taiping - Installation
Taiping, the wettest town in Malaysia is ranked one of the top sustainable places in the world. The former mining settlement is home to majestic Maxwell Hill, old colonial buildings, and a beautiful Lake Garden lined with century-old raintrees and lotus ponds. I like to imagine the day I could enjoy the morning sun, stroll along the lake, and sip a cup of coffee with charcoal-fire toasted bread … time to rejuvenate!
Not long later, I received an invitation to attend the Lions Club of Taiping (LCT) to install Lion Steven Lim as the 32nd President of LCT. As such, I really looked forward to the hour-long drive to this magnificent town on 2nd August 1997.
I was briefed that the Guest of Honour was YAB Orang Kaya Menteri Paduka, Tuan Dato’ Seri Wan Omar Wan Ahmad Rasdi. I had known Dato’ during previous visits, and he was an easy-going person. He was very proud of the Taiping Lions and revealed to me that the Lions in Taiping adhered to the Lions’ code of ethics, even in their everyday life!
The simple yet elegant ceremony went well, and I knew that the Lions Club in Taiping would be in the capable hands of Steven.
