Lions Club of Pearl of the Orient
LCPO's Mid-Autumn Fundraiser

I was honored to attend the Lions Club of Pearl of the Orient’s (LCPO) creative and heartfelt community project held in conjunction with the annual *Pesta Tanglung & Kuih Bulan* celebration during the Mid-Autumn Festival. This wasn’t a typical club meeting—it was a public-facing fundraiser that radiated cultural pride and service spirit.

President Linda Moo, in her opening speech, reaffirmed the club’s ongoing commitment to innovation and community support. She emphasized that the event’s primary goal was to raise funds for underprivileged families, while also celebrating the richness of tradition. To distinguish this project from conventional fundraising efforts, she took on a bold challenge and produced the largest mooncake ever seen in the region, and it became a centerpiece of both spectacle and purpose. It was sold in portions to well-wishers and mall-goers, with all proceeds directed toward charitable causes. The event was officially officiated by YB Lim Gim Soon, whose presence lent prestige and encouragement to the club’s efforts.

During the officiating, I took a moment to commend LCPO for their originality and community spirit. Their decision to host the event in an open mall space was strategic and inspired—office workers, shoppers, and passersby witnessed firsthand the Lions’ dedication to service. The visibility sparked curiosity, goodwill, and generosity. The response from the public exceeded expectations, with many stepping forward to purchase mooncake portions and support the cause. It was a celebration of culture, compassion, and creativity—proof that when Lions think boldly and act with heart, the community responds in kind.
