Lions Club of Kangar - Charter Presentation / Installation / Club Visit

The date of 23 August 1990 would be etched in history as the moment the Lions movement took root in Perlis, marking the inception of the Lions Club of Kangar.

I had the honor of being invited to present the Certificate of Charter to the Lions Club in Kangar. My role was also to install the President and the Board of Directors. I decided to designate my attendance at the club as my official visit. Region 2 Chairman Zullkiffely Daru, Zone 3 Chairman Lim Bak Soew, and several Cabinet Officers acted as my entourage.

The dinner attendees were privileged to witness this significant occasion, which featured the Charter Presentation and the Installation of President Wong Kum Piew and his Board of Directors. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with Lions members elegantly attired in their lounge suits, proudly displaying the Lions International emblem on their left breast pockets.

The Lions Initiation Ceremony was conducted earlier in the evening, and the newly inducted members recited their pledges in unison with great solemnity.

During the event, the club generously presented a wheelchair to a physically disabled boy, for which his father expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Lions Club for providing this essential mobility aid.

The Lions Club of Alor Setar which sponsored this new club, with Past President Ong Lee Hoon served as the Guiding Lion. Subsequently, the club outlined its established goals and identified various programs aimed at enhancing the community in the State of Perlis. Additionally, the Lions Club of Kangar announced that they took the initiative to sponsor an Omega Leo Club at the local university.
