The Blooming of Bougainvillea: A Night to Remember
1st November 1997 – Ipoh, Perak
It was more than just a date—it was the birth of a new roar in the Lions movement.
That evening, under the proud banner of Lionism, the Lions Club of Ipoh Bougainvillea City (LCIBC) came to life. Sponsored by the ever-steadfast Lions Club of Ipoh Host, this new club wasn’t just formed—it was planted, nurtured by the vision of a former Lioness with a heart full of purpose.
Angela Chong, once a Lioness, now stood tall as the Charter President. With her, a vibrant group of 25 Omega Leos and friends—young, passionate, and ready to serve—stepped forward to shape a new chapter in Ipoh’s Lionistic journey.
The induction ceremony was led by Lion President Dr. Enjer Singh, whose steady hand and warm welcome set the tone for what was to come. And I, as District Governor, had the honor of presenting the Charter Certificate to CP Angela Chong—a moment etched in my memory like the scent of bougainvillea in bloom.
In my speech, I reminded the new Lions that true service is not measured in hours or accolades, but in the quiet commitment to uplift others. “This very spirit of Lionism should be embodied in every Lion,” I said—and I meant it with every fiber of my being.
That night, Ipoh didn’t just gain a new club. It gained a new heartbeat.
