Lions Club of Kota Setar - Installation / Anniversary
The Lions Club of Alor Setar hosted its installation and
banquet dinner with an air of royal elegance. DYMM Tuanku Sultan Abdul Hamid
Halim Shah, the Sultan of Kedah, and his consort Sultanah Hajjah Bahiyah
Tuanku Abdul Rahman graced the occasion at the Royal Kedah Club.
Lucy and I received invitations to this splendid occasion.
In my capacity as district governor, I was invited to install the new Lion
President Lim Bak Seow and deliver a speech.
In preparation for the evening, I underwent a briefing on
the appropriate protocols due to the attendance of royalty at the club. This
proved to be a challenging endeavor, as it required extensive royal
salutations. Specific phrases needed to be enunciated in Bahasa Malaysia at the
start as well as at the end of my speech. So I decided to recite from a prepared
script.
The Sultan arrived punctually, and we were both escorted to a photography session alongside the VIPs. Everyone was dressed to the nines for the session with the royal couple. Yellow, the royal colour was the main hue. His Royal Highness had a good reputation for his inspiring speeches.
After completing the installation, I awaited the Sultan’s address with anticipation. The ADC positioned the Sultan’s personal podium at the main table, along with his speech wrapped in a book. A profound silence enveloped the room. The emcee then invited Tuanku to speak. His Majesty slowly stood up and noticed the deafening silence. To ease the atmosphere, Tuanku began with a few light-hearted jokes. He peppered his speech with anecdotes and moral lessons when needed. It was truly a memorable nite!

2nd Charter Anniversary Celebration
Lucy and I were invited to attend the 2nd Charter Anniversary Celebration of the Lions Club of Kota Setar (LCKS). The event took place at an upscale restaurant in town. The Lions Club of George Town, which had sponsored the LCKS, was well-represented.
The anniversary dinner was held in a relaxed, informal atmosphere, ultimately turning into a lively night of fun and merriment.
Despite being a relatively new club, the LCKS had already undertaken some impressive community service projects to benefit the people of Alor Star.
