Lions Club of George Town - Club Visit
After traveling
extensively, I was delighted to return to my hometown in Penang. Reflecting on my
journey, I realized how far I have come since my early days as a novice Lion in
1964. In 1981, I was given a mission to form the Lions Club of George Town
Central, and in 1988, I initiated another Lions club, Lions Club of George Town
Mutiara, culminating in my current role as District Governor after 32 years.
My next club visit was LC George Town on 12 August 1997, the club where I was inducted as a Lion member. I felt a friendly environment as I knew all the members of the club. President Ooi Aik Seng presided over the
meeting. The meeting took place in one of the function rooms at the Crown
Prince Hotel in Tanjung Bunga.
The evening unfolded with quiet anticipation as I was invited to deliver my address to the club. Standing before a room of attentive members, I formally outlined our district’s mission and vision—pillars of purpose that guide our collective service. My words were met with thoughtful nods and steady gazes, a sign of a club deeply rooted in commitment.
What truly warmed my heart was the presence of Leo members among the audience. Their inclusion spoke volumes about the club’s foresight and dedication to nurturing future leaders. I commended the initiative, noting how such exposure would allow the Leos to absorb the nuances of Lions’ traditions—from meeting conduct to the spirit of fellowship.
I shared highlights from various clubs across the district, showcasing the diversity of service and the creativity of our members. With each example, I encouraged collaboration—joint projects that could amplify our impact and deepen inter-club bonds in the region.
Then came the questions—curious, candid, and plentiful. I welcomed them all. One by one, I responded with clarity and encouragement, grateful for the opportunity to enlighten and engage. These exchanges, I’ve found, were where leadership truly lives—not just in speeches, but in dialogue.
