Lions Club of Jementah - Club Visit

Little-known Jementah is the largest pomelo producer in Johore. From Segamat, I drove to visit the sole Lions Club in this small town. Sometimes, it’s the quiet clubs that leave the loudest echoes. Much to my surprise, they had their own clubhouse that was well-furnished and decorated with Lions paraphernalia. With their membership, they gathered with sincerity and purpose. What I found was a club pulsing with quiet energy and deep commitment.

What struck me most wasn’t the scale, but the spirit. These Lions didn’t serve for recognition. They served because it was right. And in that moment, I was reminded: Lionism isn’t measured by numbers or noise. It’s measured by heart.

Their service projects weren’t grand, but they were genuine. During my club visit, the club presented an RM500 cheque to Mrs. Lee Thean Huat whose husband was suffering from a stomach ulcer. After the meeting, we shared stories, laughter, and a simple meal.

I witnessed another remarkable project as we dropped in to see a paralytic patient named Lim Ming Liang. The club donated a health ripple mattress for his comfort. After the presentation, I told them plainly that their dedication to mankind’s betterment was inspiring. I told them to stay true to the Lions’ International objectives and code of ethics. The world needs their kind of service.
