Our humble beginning...
The Lions Club of George Town Mutiara was sponsored by the Lions Club of Georgetown Central and received her 'Instruments of Charter' from Lions Club International on 13th April 1988 with Lion Danny Lim as her Charter President.
The Club was the first Lions Club in the District (Malaysia) to comprise Members from both genders.
Our name - Lions Club of George Town Mutiara... Penang is known as the “Pearl of the Orient”. Being a club formed on the island, the name “Pearl” is most suitable and we named ourselves in the national language “MUTIARA”. The beautiful and desirable “Mutiara”. "Mutiara" is not only lustrous and beautiful on the outside, it also serves as an effective traditional medicine for internal healing when crushed and swallowed. As Past International Director Dato’ Douglas KK Lee said, “Not only are you beautiful and desirable outside, you are also life-saving when applied inside”.
